Matt has worked in schools for the last 20 years, with visits lasting anything between 15 minutes to 2 or 3 years. These have included projects: led by young people, working with staff, educational action zones, regional literacy advisors, local community, other artists, and both serious and fun projects. Recent projects have frequently led to publications and performances. Matt has also worked in schools in Germany, U.S.A., and Ireland.
Matt has led adult workshops in further education colleges, universities, doctor’s surgeries, and at festivals, having been Director of Creative Writing at the University of Sheffield. He has also been a distance-learning tutor on creative writing classes at the Open College of Arts.
“THANK YOU! You were amazing and the workshops went brilliantly: the students loved it! It was a joy to see them engaged in writing for pleasure, and the quality of what they produced was great, because of your inspiration. Let's make it an annual fixture!”
Olga Dermott-Bond, Head of English and Drama, Rugby High School
“Because of you I got taller, louder, more faithful to myself, made big steps with little feet – lovely!”
Katherine, Rotherham Young Writers
